Google Ads
You know what I really hate sometimes ... Google Ads.
I hate going to a website that is solely created for Google. The home page stretches down like 10 feet and is full of keywords with no real message coming across. The left, right, top and bottom of the page is covered in Google Ads. The footer on every page is full of keywords and links.
I mean, come on people. Do you really want to ruin the look and feel of your entire website so Google will like you. Hell, I'd love for Google to love me, but I'm not going to to turn IWS into a Google machine. I wonder if soon every site will be the same and all you'll really see are keywords and Google ads.
How am I supposed to compete with these idiots without selling out?!?

I hate all ads period. Especially those darn pop up ads!!! Argh!! They piss me off! lol!
Actually, that shouldn't work. Old search engines were based upon search words, Google works on the number of other sites that link to you. This is why there is trackback spam- by using blog trackbacks, you can make many blogs link to you and boost your Google rating.
The Google ads thing is a different matter, but my guess is that they're not making much money off of it.
Short answer - their strategy looks dumb to me. If you want to boost your placement, get people to link to you and ignore the rest.
Enyur~ yes, pop up ads are the worse! especially the ones that get through even though you have a popup blocker!
OIJ ~ yup, IWS is my baby =)
Ennis ~ oh my naive blogger - if only it were that easy. Google's system is based on a complex algorithm that weighs different qualities. For example, a certain percentage is allocated to relevant one-way links but a large percentage is also determined by how long your site has been live, your title tags, and yes, content and keywords (besides other little factors). There is no other way to explain a website with one page on a Hindu wedding that has been around since '01 placing #4 on Google for "indian wedding."
Very cool design! Useful information. Go on! » » »
