My Theories

When I was in middle school I developed this "theory" that girls who had older brothers were independent. Not to say that girls w/o older brothers weren't. I tested it out through high school with people I met and totally believe it.

Anyways, I now have these two new theories that I recently formed that I am going to begin testing out. I don't know how much sense they make yet but I'll find out I'm sure =)

1) I do not like couples who went to Hawaii for their honeymoon.

Reasoning: Hawaii is such a boring honeymoon destination!! I'm sure the islands are gorgeous, but these days college kids go there for spring break. It doesn't hold the same romantic charm that it did years ago when kids still went to Disneyland for break. I think it would be a great place for a couple to vacation, but choosing it for your honeymoon just seems like you picked the first thing that came to mind. If you can afford Hawaii, there are tons of other more exciting places or once-in-a-lifetime trips that you could choose.

2) I do not like Sikh couples who name their daughters Simran or Jasmine.

Reasoning: BORING! Simran is such a generic name - I have met over 10 Simrans who are in my age group. My poor niece names every doll/fish/new friend Simran because she has met more than 5 little girls named Simran. Come on people - get creative! I don't care if it was Kajol's name in DDLJ or if it's a convenient Sikh name, use your imagination!! And Jasmine? It's such a copout name. I want it to sound Indian, but also be American. So now there's an onslaught of little girls named Jasmine. Granted, my name is Sonia but hey, I didn't name myself =) I just don't understand why you would want to name your daughter something that everyone else and their mothers are naming their daughters.

I guess I just feel that the above two things are really important - what with choosing Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora for my honeymoon and having an Excel spreadsheet ready with potential kids' names years before I'm ready to have them.

Let's see how these theories hold up. I already found out one couple I can't stand honeymooned in Hawaii =) Of course, tomorrow I may find out that a couple I love are naming their daughter Simran, haha.

Oh, by the way, I'm starting to feel much better now ... thanks for your comments =)

I agree on both accounts.

If HI is the most excting place you can think of -- well that's kinda sad.

I hate -- detest -- common names. Get creative!!

I have to disagree with the whole Simran name thing. With a nickname like Simi, you'd think my real name is Simran, but nope...my Dada Ji named me Shaminder instead! I must say that sometiems I wish my name is Simran instead of Shaminder simply because Shaminder is a very complicated name to pronounce and it sounds VERY masculine. My sister's real name is Loveleen, which by the way is one of my all time favorite names! I do, however, agree with the Hawaii honeymoon destination thing. People should be more creative with their honeymoon destinations. I have a million placed that I'd love to visit on my honeymoon (whenever that happens to be) and none of them include Hawaii!

Simran is actually coming back full swing since the soap Astitva aired on Zee TV. That and Aastha. I'm hearing Aastha everywhere now. .

ani ~ Yay, I have someone agreeing with me =)

oij ~ Yup, Simran is one of the most common Sikh girl names. This one couple I know had to pick a name starting with H, so they chose Harsimran. Haha, that cracked me up.

Simi ~ I love your real name hehe. It's a great way to break the ice with people =) Simran is definitely an easy name but there is just no creativity invovled - it's TOO easy.

chic ~ you're right - Simran did get big because of that drama. More reason I don't like it =)

cookiemonsta ~ I still want to go to HI though =)
